Ranked on one dog

Which food costs least per day?

The comparison uses one-time prices on the brands’ own websites on 21 October 2026, except Bella + Duke, which uses the Pets at Home shelf price.

The lowest raw rows use body weight rather than calories. Natures Menu is the lowest calorie-matched row; Lily's Kitchen is cooked and supplies fewer calories per gram. Both calorie-matched prices cover the same estimated daily energy.

Compare calorie-based rows together; the lower body-weight estimates do not establish the same food allowance.

Price per day

Why are daily prices so different?

Natures Menu lists 133 kcal per 100 g, while Lily's Kitchen lists 94 kcal per 100 g. That means more grams of Lily's Kitchen are needed to supply the same calories.

The chart combines that difference with the price per kilogram. A cheaper pack is not necessarily a cheaper day of feeding: pack weight and calorie density both matter.

Price per day reflects both the food’s calorie density and its price per kilogram.

What can you know before the quiz?

Pure Pet Food and Butternut Box show personalised prices only after their quizzes. Butternut Box’s own website advertises “Fresh meals from: £2.34 / day”; that starting figure is not a quote for this dog.

The estimated portions are 206 g for Pure Pet Food, weighed dry before adding water, and 616 g for Butternut Box. Butternut’s estimate uses its published recipe-average calories, not a chicken-specific figure.

The portion can be estimated before the quiz, but the personalised daily cost cannot.

Calories or 2–3%

Is the raw feeding rule equivalent?

For the same 15 kg adult, Natures Menu needs an estimated 602 g by calories, against 300–450 g under the body-weight rule. Those portions are not interchangeable.

The 2–3% rule is guidance raw brands print, not a veterinary norm. The raw food comparison keeps rule-based estimates apart where open product pages lack calories.

A body-weight percentage does not confirm that a portion supplies the dog’s estimated calories.

Calories versus the 2–3% rule: Natures Menu Country Hunter 80% Chicken Nuggets (1,330 kcal/kg)
DogBy caloriesBy 2–3% of body weight
5 kg adult239 g100–150 g
15 kg adult602 g300–450 g
30 kg working dog1,566 g600–900 g

The rule is what raw brands print; it is not a veterinary norm. Small dogs need more food per pound than the rule gives, large active dogs less or more depending on calories.

First-box offers

Which discounts continue after the first box?

At the check date, Pure Pet Food’s Awin listing offered 30% off the first box and 10% off the second. Lily's Kitchen’s Awin listing offered 25% off the first order; Bella + Duke also listed a new-customer offer.

These introductory reductions are not ongoing prices. Natures Menu’s own page instead lists 10% off every subscription order, so that saving continues beyond the first delivery.

Separate introductory discounts from recurring subscription savings when budgeting.

How the list is made

How is the comparison calculated?

  1. One dog

    15 kg adult, 801 kcal a day

  2. Label calories

kcal per kg as printed by each brand

  3. Open prices

listed prices with date, 21 October 2026

  4. Same order

price per day, low to high

The calculation uses FEDIAF, AAHA and WSAVA estimates for a moderately active, neutered 15 kg adult—801 kcal a day, with a 747–854 kcal range between methods—then converts label calories into grams and listed prices into daily costs.

Treat these figures as starting points, weigh your dog monthly and adjust; ask your vet about feeding puppies, weight loss, allergies or illness.

The same dog makes prices comparable, but the estimated portion still needs checking against your dog’s weight.

Questions

Short answers

How much does fresh dog food cost in the UK?

For the comparison’s 15 kg adult, Lily's Kitchen’s cooked recipe costs an estimated £11.22 a day at its listed one-time website price. The raw and dried options use different price bases, and some require a quiz.

Which fresh dog food should I choose?

Start with the cost for your dog’s calorie needs, not the first-box discount. Compare ongoing prices on the same basis, and ask your vet if your dog has allergies or illness.

Does every fresh dog food price include delivery?

No. Prices exclude shipping unless the brand includes it. The Bella + Duke price used here is a Pets at Home shelf price; that listing offers Click & Collect, not home delivery.
