Ranked on one dog

Which recipes cost less per day?

JustFoodForDogs Beef & Russet Potato has the lowest estimated daily cost at its one-time store price. The chart’s highest-cost recipe, its Venison & Squash, uses the brand store’s catalog price. Both are cooked and supply the same estimated daily calories, but require different amounts.

These are not all subscription quotes: Nom Nom uses a PetSmart shelf price, while A Pup Above uses its own one-time price, plus shipping. Compare the price basis before choosing a plan.

The ranking compares daily feeding costs, not identical purchase arrangements.

Price per day

Why does calorie density change the cost?

JustFoodForDogs lists Beef & Russet Potato at 1,559 kcal ME per kg as fed and Venison & Squash at 872. The less calorie-dense recipe needs a larger daily portion to supply the same energy.

Their listed prices per pound are nearly equal, yet the estimated portions are 16.8 oz and 30.1 oz a day. That explains the wide gap in daily cost. Compare feeding costs, rather than pack prices alone.

A similar price per pound can produce a very different price per day.

What can quiz-only prices tell you?

Ollie, Spot & Tango and The Farmer’s Dog quote personalized prices after a quiz. Ollie’s own site says fresh food starts below $4 a day for small dogs; Spot & Tango and The Farmer’s Dog advertise starting figures around $2 a day.

Those figures are not quotes for this dog. Label calories allow an estimated 20.2 oz a day for Ollie Fresh Chicken, but The Farmer’s Dog Turkey has no published calorie figure for calculating a comparable portion.

A brand’s starting figure cannot replace a quote for the same dog.

First-box offers

What happens after the first box?

On its recipe page on October 21, 2026, JustFoodForDogs listed a $91.00 first subscription box for the Beef & Russet Potato pack. That is an introductory price, not the ongoing price used in the ranking.

The brand lists 50% off the first order, 20% off the second and 5% off future orders. Keep that schedule separate from the one-time purchase price when comparing JustFoodForDogs with another plan.

The first-box discount does not continue at the same rate.

How the list is made

How is the comparison calculated?

  1. One dog

    30 lb adult, 744 kcal a day

  2. Label calories

kcal per kg as printed by each brand

  3. Open prices

listed prices with date, October 21, 2026

  4. Same order

price per day, low to high

The ranking uses a 30 lb adult at an estimated 744 kcal a day, with a 694–794 kcal range between FEDIAF, AAHA and WSAVA methods, then converts label calories into portions and listed prices into daily costs using the calculation method.

Treat calorie estimates as starting points, ask your vet about your dog’s needs, and weigh your dog monthly to adjust the amount.

The same calorie target makes recipes comparable; your dog’s actual needs may differ.

Questions

Short answers

Which fresh dog food has the lowest listed daily cost?

For the comparison dog, JustFoodForDogs Beef & Russet Potato has the lowest estimate at its one-time store price. This does not rank quiz-only quotes or first-box discounts.

Are these fresh dog food reviews based on feeding tests?

No. This comparison uses published label calories and prices to estimate portions and costs for the same dog. It does not assess taste or feeding results.

Can fresh dog food brands be compared by price per pound?

Not on price per pound alone. Calorie density changes how much food supplies the daily calorie target, so daily feeding cost is the more useful comparison.

Does this fresh dog food comparison apply to puppies?

The ranking uses an adult dog. JustFoodForDogs says Beef & Russet Potato is not intended for growing puppies; ask your vet about puppy feeding, especially for large-breed puppies.
