Open Farm review: fresh and freeze-dried recipes and their cost

Open Farm’s Trustpilot score is 2.1/5, rated “Poor,” as of October 21, 2026. Its range includes cooked food, freeze-dried raw and kibble. The useful comparison is the ongoing cost for the same dog, not the first-box discount.

Recipes

Which recipes does Open Farm offer?

Open Farm describes Goodbowl Kibble as oven-baked and its Pâtés as a topper or “complete & balanced meal.” New Icelandic Fish Wet Food is another wet option. The recipe cards shown here have no published calorie figures, so they cannot support a grams-a-day calculation.

For the dry formats, Open Farm recommends keeping the food in its original bag and using it within two months of opening. That guidance applies to dry recipes, not automatically to every format in the range.

Choose the format first, then check the exact recipe’s feeding and storage instructions.

How ordering works

  3. Delivery

“FREE SHIPPING on orders $50+ and FAST delivery!”openfarmpet.com
  4. Pause or cancel

    “Swap, reschedule or cancel anytime”openfarmpet.com

Open Farm describes a “Personalized feeding guide” and advertises 25% off the first Autoship order. Its product offer lists 5% off recurring orders afterward. The introductory reduction is therefore not the saving to use for an ongoing food budget.

The brand advertises free shipping on orders of $50 or more. Its Autoship terms say customers can “Swap, reschedule or cancel anytime,” giving a way to change the order rather than keep the original schedule.

Budget around recurring-order terms, with the first Autoship discount treated separately.

Delivery and storage

What happens before delivery?

Open Farm says delivery notifications arrive 3 days before the order charges, allowing time to adjust it. That is a billing reminder, not a promised transit time; the brand’s “fast delivery” wording does not give a precise arrival window.

Open Farm describes Goodbowl Rolls as a “slice & serve” format with grains. That describes how to serve the food, rather than the shipping packaging. Use the storage instructions for the product ordered, keeping the dry-recipe guidance separate.

Use the advance notification to review the order before it charges.

  • Storage

On October 21, 2026, Trustpilot showed Open Farm at 2.1 out of 5, rated “Poor.” The review count was not visible in the page read for this check. This is Trustpilot’s rating, not a feeding assessment or a score assigned here.

A search of fda.gov on that date found no recall notice naming Open Farm. That is a search result, not a guarantee that every possible notice has been identified.

Same dog, other brands

What does the same dog cost elsewhere?

For a 30 lb adult needing an estimated 744 kcal daily, Viva Raw Beef for Dogs works out to $9.59 a day at Viva Raw’s catalog price. JustFoodForDogs Beef & Russet Potato is $12.16 a day at its store’s one-time price. Both prices were checked October 21, 2026.

These estimates use the same calorie target, not the same food weight. Calorie density changes the amount needed, while price per pound changes the bill. The calculation method uses FEDIAF, AAHA and WSAVA formulas; weigh the dog monthly and adjust this starting point.

Compare ongoing prices at the same calorie target, rather than matching bag sizes or portions.

Who it fits

Who might consider Open Farm?

Open Farm may suit someone who wants store shopping as well as delivery, with online Autoship changes. For someone who needs a firm daily budget before ordering, no matched price and pack weight was found for the recipes compared here.

Life-stage wording also matters. Open Farm says Grass-Fed Beef & Ancient Grains meets AAFCO profiles for all life stages except growth of large-size dogs. For puppies, especially large-breed puppies, ask your vet before choosing a recipe.

Store access and flexible ordering are useful; recipe-level cost and life-stage checks still matter.

Questions

Open Farm: short answers

What do Open Farm reviews say?

The available owner-opinion measure here is Trustpilot’s “Poor” rating. It should not be read as a nutritional assessment, and this review does not add invented customer experiences or a separate star score.

What ingredients are in Open Farm food?

Ingredients vary by recipe. Open Farm describes Freeze Dried Raw as containing 92–95% meat, organ and bone, and Air Dried Recipes as containing 90%. Those are brand descriptions, not full ingredient lists for every product.

Has Open Farm had a recall?

A search of fda.gov on October 21, 2026 found no recall notice naming Open Farm. This is a search result, not a guarantee.

How do you calculate Open Farm’s daily cost?

Divide the dog’s daily calorie estimate by the recipe’s calories per unit of food, then multiply that portion by its unit price. A first-order discount and a recurring price should be calculated separately.

Can you cancel Open Farm Autoship?

Open Farm says customers can swap, reschedule or cancel anytime. It also says an advance notification arrives before the order charges, allowing time to make changes.
